    Color pictorial / pictographic map, multiple fold as issued, 22 x 33 inches on sheet 23 x 35 inches, folding to pamphlet 3 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches. Text on verso. Couple of tiny separations at fold intersections, tiny paper loss to edge of upper left panel, 1/2 inch separation to end of one fold (well outside image) overall very good condition. This is the first edition of the decorative map by Claude G. Putnam (reissued in 1954), a brightly colored and highly decorative bird's eye view style map looking north with the Mexico - California border and San Diego at lower right, Lake Mead at upper right and Hollywood at centre left. Contemporary and historic sites are marked, including the Huntington Library, the Guasti vineyard and the first oil well 1875. Vignettes of historical events decorate the border. On the verso is a black and white map "Road Map to the Roads to Romance", Guide to Historic Places and information with one color photo illustration each of the six southern California counties, Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino and San Diego. In 1950 another Claude Putnam map of the same area, but from a different perspective, was issued by the Roads to Romance Association Inc. "An Inter-County Community Non-Profit Organization.
